Police continue Hanover fatal crash investigation

An Allentown woman has died after the car she was driving was struck Sept. 2 by another vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on Airport Road in Hanover Township, Lehigh County.

According to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, Catherine Ann Neelon, 55, died at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg. An autopsy was scheduled for Sept. 5.

Pennsylvania State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, continues to investigate the crash, which occurred just after 11 p.m. in the area of Airport Center Drive.

According to the report, a 41-year-old male from Glenside, Montgomery County, was traveling northbound in a southbound lane on Airport Road when he struck Neelon’s vehicle head-on. He was placed under arrest at the scene of the crash for a suspected DUI, police said.

Neelon was taken by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, where she was pronounced dead.

The southbound lanes of Airport Road, between Catasauqua Road and Airport Center Drive, were closed for about three-and-a-half hours while the investigation began.

Assisting state police in this investigation are Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, Han-Le-Co Fire Department, Northampton Regional EMS, Troop M Collision Analysis Reconstruction Unit and Troop M Forensic Services Unit.
