Blaze damages home in Ancient Oaks
Crews from Lower Macungie, Trexlertown, Emmaus, South Whitehall, Upper Macungie and Western Salisbury fire departments responded to a two-alarm fire in the 1300 block of Walnut Lane, Lower Macungie Township Aug. 30. The first emergency call came in around 10:50 a.m.
The Colonial style home in Ancient Oaks received “significant damage” according to Lower Macungie Fire Chief Dave Nosal.
Next-door neighbor Sally Corvino alerted 911 and contacted the family about the fire. The couple, their two high school age boys and two-year-old girl were not home when the flames broke out. There were no pets at the residence.
Pennsylvania State Police, a Trexlertown crew and Nosal were the first on the scene.
A firefighter from Trexlertown Ladder Truck 2531 perched above the roof venting it to prepare the scene for others to enter through the front door to battle the fire.
When he noticed the roof was about to collapse, Nosal called the crews out of the building to fight it from outside.
Macungie Ambulance EMS personnel were posted nearby to monitor firefighters’ vital signs and provided hydration.
Two firefighters were treated for heat-related symptoms. One was treated and released while the other was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.
“Heartbreaking!” Valerie Shubeck from neighboring Butternut Lane said. She was alerted by sirens to the blaze on Walnut Lane.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
