Verizon Wireless decommissions 3G network

The Lower Milford Board of Supervisors held its monthly meeting Aug. 18. As a reminder to residents, every meeting is on the third Thursday of each month at the township building.

The meeting began without public comment and the minutes of July, the treasurer’s report and the monthly bills were approved.

The public works report showed paving was done on School House Lane, Westview Drive and Gable Drive. Prep work was done on Bell Gate Road to get ready for a pipe replacement.

In the administrator’s report, the HVAC unit repairs were completed for the township building. Additionally, an extension of time was granted for the Limeport Commons until Dec. 5.

Of note, the Macungie Ambulance Corps reported six calls in the past month. Supervisor Lowell Linde wanted to give a special thanks, as he experienced a heart attack five weeks prior and the Macungie Ambulance Corps responded hastily. Linde was in high spirits after such an event.

Southern Lehigh Library Representative Ryan Fields was in attendance to report the library board will accept the $50,000 donated from Lower Saucon Township. There are numerous procedural processes that need to be taken, but the library board is moving forward with accepting the new township. An estimate is needed on the number of people who will be joining and the resources needed for the future. The process is moving slowly with no time estimate provided. In old business, the supervisors approved closeout documents and recommended payment to H&P Construction for the township building’s garage roof replacement. The cost came to just over $42,000. This was the only item for this part of the meeting.

In new business, a resident made an appeal for variances relating to side and front yard setbacks. This is to build a garage.

A second appeal was submitted from Wanderer Coffee Company for a special exception to operate a rural occupation.

Both requests were passed to the zoning hearing board who will meet Aug. 24.

A resignation letter was received from Wynn Associates as the township forestry consultants. This was just a one-man operation and he decided to retire. The township is looking for a new forestry consultant.

The Township State Liquid Fuels Tax Fund Audit results showed the township is in compliance. The supervisors gave thanks to the township treasurer for doing a good job.

A discussion was had on the Sanctuary of Haafsville contract for the remainder of 2022. The board budgeted $1,500 but they are over double that amount due to the large number of stray cats taken in from Lower Milford. The issue is there are residents who have dozens of cats living around or on their property and don’t properly take care of them. It was decided the contract will be extended for the rest of the year, but a new contract will be crafted for next year.

In correspondence, a notice from Verizon Wireless was received on the decommissioning of the 3G Network. Any resident with old equipment should be aware of lost service if they rely on Verizon.

The last item was a financial contribution request from Meals on Wheels. The board decided not to contribute.

The meeting was then adjourned.

The next Lower Milford Board of Supervisors’ regular meeting will take place 6:30 p.m. Sept. 15. Meetings are held at the township building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road, Coopersburg.

Save the Date: The Lower Milford Township Fall Festival will be held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 24. This is the 20th anniversary of the event and will be held at the township building property.
