Home Depot at Macungie Crossings coming to Lower Macungie Township

At the Aug. 18 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, a Resolution (2022-53) for a preliminary/final land development for Home Depot, 5877 Hamilton Blvd., at Macungie Crossings, has been approved. The plan has been dormant for 15 years. This building will be on Hamilton Boulevard near Rita’s, across from the John Yurconic Agency. There is already some development of the area from when it was first proposed and approved.

There are changes to the original development. The parking lot was proposed to have 656 parking spots. This has been reduced to 406 and will be on the side of the building. The garden center will be located behind the building with the front of the building facing Hamilton Boulevard which will have an architecturally pleasing facade to maintain the image of Hamilton Boulevard.

A recommendation was made to add charging stations in the parking lot. Solar panels were also suggested but turned down for now. It was proposed to have no outside storage containers. As is with every Hamilton Boulevard plan, the sycamore trees will not be disturbed. The plan was approved.

The Woodmont Phase II was up for approval for preliminary/final land development – Resolution 2022-48. The development will have apartments and town homes. It will also include trails, a dog run, a picnic area, a patio and a pocket park. A stormwater system has been designed to deal with water in the area, above what is needed for the development.

The location of this phase will be where the Allen Organ showroom is standing. Allen Organ’s building will be rebuilt on Locust Street in Macungie.

There was a request from the developer to allow for a $125,000 credit for the recreation fee. Commissioner Maury Robert asked about the credit request and estimated the breakdown. Robert suggested $35,000 is for tables, chairs and benches. Another $35,000 would be for pavers and another amount for the retaining wall, landscaping and proper grading. Commissioner Ron Beitler expressed his opposition to this credit also.

The developer withdrew the request for the credit and the resolution was approved.

Resolution 2022-54 is an agreement with Signal Service Inc. for traffic signal maintenance. This was approved.

A request was made for a memorial for the Modrick family. A bench will have a plaque and it will include both names for the family members.
