St. Ann’s Fall Fest celebrates 40th year Sept. 8, 9 and 10

This year, St. Ann’s Fall Fest is back to its usual weekend and location for its 40th year, Sept. 8, 9 and 10. It is held on the grounds of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, 415 S. Sixth St., Emmaus. Hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Sept. 8 and 5 to 11 p.m. Sept. 9 and 10.
The fest features two big tents, one for food and one for the free live musical entertainment. All the crowd-favorite foods are offered, including sausage sandwiches, potato pancakes, clam chowder, hamburgers, fries and walking tacos. There is a beer tent and a Tiki bar. Entertainment includes Still Kickin’ 7 p.m. Sept. 9 and The Castaways Band Sept. 10.
The ethnic food kitchen will be take out only this year, offering frozen packages of handmade halupkis. For information, visit Instagram or Facebook or www.churchstann.org.
Another annual event, The Farewell to Summer Festival, sponsored by the Emmaus Main Street Partners, will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 17 at Triangle Park. The festival features entertainment, kids’ activities with Active Learning Centers, a scarecrow trail, crafts, vendors and food and drink from local businesses.
In partnership with the downtown Farewell to Summer Festival, the Emmaus Heritage Alliance is holding its annual Heritage Festival 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 17 on the grounds of the Emmaus Historical Society, 218 Main St.
The Heritage Festival will include displays of its member groups, food, entertainment and children’s activities. Also included will be demonstrations such as weaving, blacksmithing, candle making and PA long rifle lore. There will be animals and hands-on children’s activities hosted by the Wildlands Conservancy.
Alliance members include the Emmaus Historical Society, Shelter House Society, Knauss Homestead Preservation Society, the 1803 House, the Emmaus Public Library, the Emmaus Moravian Church and the Emmaus Main Street Partners. The Alliance, which is celebrating 30 years, was founded as a way for local historic groups to meet and discuss common goals. It has become a valuable tool for planning events and promoting the heritage of Emmaus.
The Emmaus Historical Society and Museum, 218 Main St., is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Stop by for a visit and learn more about this history-filled community.
The society’s monthly membership meetings and programs are scheduled to resume 7 p.m. Sept. 21 at St. John’s Lutheran Church parish hall, 401 Chestnut St. The first program will be “The Circus is coming to the Valley,” presented by Bob Good who inherited a large collection of old circus memorabilia from his late father, Robert. Good will relate the history of circuses, along with delightful Lehigh Valley circus stories. All are welcome to attend.
The society’s museum committee appreciates all donations of memorabilia that came from, was used or enjoyed by those in Emaus/Emmaus. Currently, the society is especially interested in items associated with Emmaus funeral homes. Displays and a program are being developed on this topic for October. Emmaus’ Community Yard Sale will be held starting 8 a.m. Sept. 10. Rain date is Sept. 11.
The final concert in the park for the season will be held 6 p.m. Sept. 4 with The SwingTime Dolls entertaining.
Zumba continues through September 8:45 a.m. every Saturday at the Community Park Arts Pavilion. Cardio Drumming also continues 6:30 p.m. Mondays at the park.
St. John’s United Church of Christ, 139 N. Fourth St., will hold a yard, bake and hot dog sale 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 10. The sale will be held rain or shine. For information, call 610-704-3980.
The Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main St., will be closed Sept. 3 through Sept. 5 for the Labor Day holiday.
Representatives from the office of U.S. Rep. Susan Wild, D-7th, will be at the Emmaus Public Library 1 p.m. Sept. 8.
The Art @ EPL program in September is mosaics. Join local artist Lisa Fraenkel for a workshop on mosaics 11 a.m. Sept. 10. The workshop is aimed at artists and aspiring artists with beginning and intermediate skills ages 16 and older. The library will host a First Friday Scavenger Hunt Sept. 2. Hunt on your own or with a team to find five clues around the library for a small prize.
The library will participate in National Draw a Penguin Day, Sept. 17. Visit the children’s wing and create your own or color one of Miss Sue’s penguins.
Artist Julie Bell will present a special story time featuring her new book for elementary aged readers and their families 2 p.m. Sept. 17.
And, be sure to come out Sept. 19 and participate in Talk like a Pirate Day. Practice: “Ahoy, me hearties.”
Books ‘n’ Barks is back. Read to the Lehigh Valley Therapy dogs, 6:30 p.m. Sept. 22. No registration is needed. Bring your own books or choose one from the library.

The Emmaus Garden Club will meet noon Sept. 6 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St. The program will be “Flowers from Acquisition to the Vase” presented by Janet Vibbert, a talented floral designer with vast experience.
