EHS cross-country will use Camp Olympic

During the Aug. 4 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, the plan for Macungie Hospital was discussed. The demolition of the former Weis Market, 3369 Route 100, has been completed. The driveways will remain as they are with a proposal for a sidewalk along the back driveway linking the property with Wawa as this driveway is very narrow. That suggestion was not considered as there is a sidewalk in the front.

The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System has not been received as of yet. It was requested to be received expeditiously as the developer is anxious to begin construction. The anticipated construction time is one year.

There is an issue about the location as it is in Lower Macungie Township. There are various other developments which are misleading as to their location due to Lower Macungie being a township. It was suggested a gateway sign be used to indicate people are entering the township.

The developer is investigating water concerns especially potential flooding in the area. These concerns are being addressed as an act of goodwill for the township.

While waiting for necessary permits and building plans to be approved, the developer has requested they be allowed to begin site work. The commissioners expressed concern over this from past experiences. A compromise was reached in that the developer can work on landscaping unhealthy trees in the buffer. It was mentioned one of the trees had fallen and hit a building.

The Woodmont Phase III Preliminary/Final Land Development Plan was tabled for a later meeting.

Emmaus High School Assistant Director of Athletics and Activities Mark Spengler is requesting use of Camp Olympic for cross-country meets and practices. This was approved as it’s a good way for residents to see the park. Its also safer than the Parkway.

There was an executive session after the July 25 workshop regarding litigation.

The Gehman Street bridge was discussed. It was mentioned the project is being done on time and should be opened around the beginning of school.

Resolution 2022-51 was approved. This is a partial agreement for the Trexlertown Business Center between TimTay LLC and Jaindl Land Company.

Resolution 2022-52 was discussed. This will authorize the township manager to execute a Department of Community and Economic Development Multimodal grant application for a trail connection at Hillside School.

An Eagle Scout Project is planned in the Camp Olympic Park. The proposal is to create an information kiosk. This will be completed by Ryan Bennett.

There was an executive session after the meeting regarding personnel matters.
