Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) is one of 19 colleges or training centers in the United States and one of two in Pennsylvania to receive a federal grant for military service members, veterans and their families to study for a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
LCCC will receive $193,677 in the two-year grant for scholarships valued at $5,530 each.
The $3.1 million grant was announced Aug. 2 at a news conference by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and U.S. Congresswoman Susan Wild (D-7th).
The funds are from the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration through the Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training Grant Program.
The CDL program at LCCC utilizes classroom, driving range and on-road training. The four-week program is in partnership with CC Training, LLC. Experienced instructors help prepare students to take and pass their state’s Commercial Driver’s License test.
