Trick or treat in East Allen Friday before Halloween

At the Aug. 10 meeting, East Allen Township Board of Supervisors discussed the township’s trick-or-treat night.

There was discussion about whether or not to hold trick or treat Oct. 31, on Halloween night, or on a Friday or Saturday so as not to interfere with a school night.

The board voted to hold trick or treat on a Friday. This year’s event will be 6-8 p.m. Oct. 28, with a rain date of Oct. 29.

Board members also voted, moving forward, to hold trick or treat the Friday before Halloween. It was also agreed to name township Manager Brent Green the contact for resident questions regarding trick or treat.

In other matters, the board discussed the replacement of a roadside mowing tractor needing disposal. It is expected the township may receive a small amount of money for the mower.

The board also plans to dispose of the Craftco crack-sealing machine, the Tornado salt spreader, a tractor mounted York rake and a 2008 Ford Escape. Green requested and received permission to place the items on Municibid for possible auction.

Municibid, located in Philadelphia, is a convenient and easy-to-use online auction service for government agencies, schools, authorities and utilities to sell surplus, unneeded equipment. Visit municibid.com for information about this service, auction dates and times and online bidding.

The board approved the purchase of a 2022 GMC 3500 Pro pickup truck at a cost of $53,920. Green noted the township received a Local Shared Agreement grant for $61,000 for the purchase.

Green said when additional attachments are purchased for the truck, it will increase the cost to about $65,000. This will require about $5,000 of township money toward the new truck.

“I’d gladly buy a new truck for $5,000,” board Chair Roger Unangst quipped.

Green noted the color of the truck is white, not the traditional yellow the township uses for its public works vehicles. The board opted not to spend the money to paint the truck yellow.

The board also approved waivers requested by the Snowdrift Road storage unit and postponed a decision on several other waiver requests until more information is provided by the developer. The board also approved several waivers for the Compass Business East plan.

No decision was taken by the board on the Airport Road intersection pedestrian crossing. It was noted the improvement would cost between $15,000 and $20,000.

The board began discussions on the 2023 budget. Green informed the board the first budget meeting is planned for Oct. 12. He asked the supervisors to assemble their priorities and budget goals for 2023.

Supervisors will next meet for a workshop, set for 7 p.m. Aug. 25. It is a hybrid meeting, with both in-person and virtual options. The municipal building is located at 5344 Nor-Bath Blvd. Visit eatwp.org for the call-in and access codes to view virtually.
