Robert A. Barnes, D.O.

Robert A. Barnes, D.O., 80, of Allentown, died peacefully Aug. 11, 2022, after a long illness at Cornerstone Living surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Martha (Laudermilch) Barnes. They celebrated 56 years of marriage on July 2. Born in Plainfield, N.J., he was the son of the late Robert D. Barnes, D.O. and Ruth (Hellyer) Barnes.

He graduated from Plainfield High School in 1961. He later attended and graduated from Elizabethtown College in 1965 where he met his wife. He furthered his education at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine receiving his degree in 1969.

He served the people of Emmaus and surrounding communities as an osteopathic family physician for over 45 years. As a gifted physician, he made his patients feel like family.

He was a devoted member of the American Osteopathic Medical Association and the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association for the entirety of his career.

As a faithful Christian, he was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Allentown.

He was an avid Phillies fan and Eagles fan, loved hunting in the Pennsylvania outdoors and fishing at the Jersey shore.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family in Beach Haven on Long Beach Island, N.J.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Debra Paolucci (husband, Lawrence), of Grosse Pointe, Mich., Elizabeth Bartolucci (husband, Donald), of Allentown; son, Robert Brian, D.O. (wife, Kathryn), of Macungie; brother-in-law, James Laudermilch, of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Victor and Anastasia Paolucci, Brendan and Brynn Atticks, Francesca, Valentina, James and Julia Bartolucci, Abigail, Amanda and Robert.

A visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 26 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown and 1 to 2:45 p.m. Aug. 27 in the church. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. in the church.
