To the Editor:

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg visited Allentown last week to tour the Lehigh Valley International Airport and Lehigh Carbon County Community College with Congresswoman Susan Wild. He highlighted how the Lehigh Valley will benefit from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, legislation that Congresswoman Wild helped deliver.

This infrastructure funding law will allow LVIA to build new security checkpoints and will expand overall airport capacity and reduce our waiting time in lines.

This infrastructure investment at LVIA will bring visitors, jobs and dollars to our community and spur our local economy.

It makes important investments to upgrade our roads, bridges and transit systems.

Most importantly to me, this bill will accelerate repairing the 85 bridges in Lehigh and Carbon Counties that are rated POOR by PennDOT [the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation].

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will also help our veterans. It provides training and employment for veterans in good-paying jobs in the trucking and construction industry.

I’m thankful to Susan Wild for helping deliver these investments. I’m also thankful for her hard work to pass the Veterans PACT Law that will expand benefits for veterans exposed to toxic substances during their service to our country.

They served. They deserve these benefits.
