The Great Allentown Fair is set for Aug. 31 through Sept. 5.

Farmers, gardeners, antique collectors, crafters, bakers, cooks, photographers and more compete for small monetary awards and prestigious Allentown fair blue ribbons.

The vast number of categories include more than 175 types of fruits, vegetables and herbs, along with 19 different varieties of organic vegetables, which are judged and then put on display inside Agri-Plex, the fair’s main exhibit hall and “heart of the fair.”

The fair typically exhibits more than 900 farm animals and 9,000 products from farms, gardens and homes, including arts and crafts.

As a special attraction, 11 culinary contests offer cooks and bakers extra incentives for whipping up favorite recipes or creating new dishes judged during the fair with an audience.
