The Allen Township Board of Supervisors met July 26 to discuss an engineering proposal and hear from residents.
D’Huy Engineering presented a proposal for a facilities study in the township. The proposal looked at both the municipal building and the fire company building.
Project manager Kim LaBrake explained the company plans to remove the kitchen in the fire company building and turn it into administrative offices, leaving a large portion of the empty space for a community meeting room.
LaBrake also discussed updating the fire company’s entrance to make it visible from the road and more obvious it is a township building.
The board approved a motion accepting D’Huy Engineering’s bid and plans to move the project forward.
The supervisors also heard from resident Jason Hower about a letter he received regarding driving through Covered Bridge Park.
Hower explained his family has been driving a tractor down to the creek for irrigation, being careful to avoid the flowers planted by the township. Chairman Dale Hassler said he feels the flowers are being run down and that he doesn’t believe there was a formal agreement between the township and the farm.
To fix both of these problems, the supervisors suggested driving down Covered Bridge Road and accessing the creek, as well as establishing a written agreement establishing the who, what and when.
In other business, the supervisors approved a motion hiring Ryan Christman, of Keystone Consulting Engineers, to serve as a part-time zoning officer, dealing with smaller project requests, such as pools and decks. Township Manager Ilene Eckhart has been serving as interim zoning officer since May 2019. Adding Christman as a part-time officer will allow Eckhart to focus more on her job as township manager.
The board of supervisors next meets 7 p.m. Aug. 9 in the fire company building, 3530 Howertown Road.
