Charles John Volkert Jr., 39, of Emmaus, died July 26, 2022, in Lehigh Valley Hospice surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Lindsay M. (Quay) Volkert. Born in Allentown, he was the son of Charles John Volkert Sr. and Lori (Cathers) Rhoades.
He played football and was a 2001 graduate of Emmaus High School, attended Lehigh Carbon Community College, was a 2009 honors graduate of Bucknell University and a 2012 graduate of the Penn State Dickinson Law School.
He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, deployed twice to Iraq, earned two Meritorious Masts and received an honorable discharge in 2005 as a corporal. He later served as a judge advocate in the PA Army National Guard from 2014 to 2018 and obtained the rank of captain.
He worked as an assistant district attorney in Cumberland County from 2010 to 2018. He later became an assistant U.S. attorney for the Department of Justice, serving in Buffalo, N.Y., from 2018 to 2020 and then in Allentown from 2020 to present.
He was named a Top 50 Successful Graduate of LCCC and was named an alumni board member in 2022.
He loved playing with his children, Penn State football, mowing his lawn, Bruce Springsteen, reading, lifting weights and hanging out with his friends.
He is survived by his wife; father and his wife, Robin; mother and her husband, Robert Rhoades; a son, Charles Joshua; a daughter, Finley Patricia; sisters, Christine and her husband, Braden Hendershot, Cynthia and her husband, Russ Abrams; paternal grandmother, Joan; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins.
