The Parkland School Board granted approval to insurance carriers and premiums for the 2022-23 school year.
The most costly one is Workers’ Compensation, underwritten by AmTrust Insurance, with a premium of $631,956.
Another major item approved at the board’s June 21 meeting, is property and casualty insurance underwritten by Utica National Insurance Group with an annual premium of $476,764.
The policy provides coverage for properties and contents valued at $428.4 million.
Coverage for the district’s 223 vehicles is also underwritten by Utica National with an annual premium of $209,913.
Myers, Benner Corporation serves as the local agent for those insurance matters, as well as providing excess liability with a premium of $59,622; school board liability, $37,317; boiler/machinery, $29,347; and cyber liability, $22,506.
The student accident insurance program, with an annual premium of $207,480, is obtained from AG Administrators.
In another matter, with a vote of 7-2, the board approved the annual tax for the Parkland Community Library at a rate of 0.1 mills.
Jarrett Coleman and Patrick Foose voted no on the library item.
The board turned its attention to school lunch costs for 2022-23.
Rates are elementary, $2.70; secondary, $2.95; and adults, $3.95 for lunch.
Breakfast costs are $1.50 elementary, $1.75 secondary, and $2.50 adults.
Reduced price lunch is 40 cents and reduced breakfast is 30 cents.
During the two previous school years, lunches were provided free due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
