Swimmers knock off Whitehall

Northampton Kids Swim Club capped off its season in the Suburban Swim League with a 343-232 victory over the Whitehall Waves on July 11 at Northampton.

“The kids have been improving all summer,” said Kids head coach Cullen Mentzell. “We had a lot more kids than last year, probably about 25 to 30 more. Our 13-14 girls and boys are our biggest group.”

Northampton swept all events in the 13-14 age group: Maliya Walp and Josiah Hippert in the 50 freestyle (28.68 and 27.02), Walp and Logan Saylor in the 50 breaststroke (39.30 and 37.44), Jerailda Esteban and Saylor in the 100 IM (1:19.37 and 1:10.97), Ava Aulisio and Hippert in the 50 butterfly (33.85 and 30.42), Walp and Nicholas Isaac in the 50 backstroke (35.30 and 33.67), and Ausilio and Saylor in the 100 freestyle (1:06.81 and 1:02.75).

In 15 & over, Gabriella Oswald and Ryan Franke won the 50 free (28.09 and 23.97), Oswald won the 50 breast (36.46), Ava Gower took first in the 50 fly (31.06), Franke won the 50 back (28.19), and Oswald and Stephen Carrasco won the 100 free (1:05.72 and 55.05).

The Kids opened the meet with an 8 & under victory in the 100 free relay on a combination of Keira Foley, Riley Sacks, Mabel Conrad and Norah Goldfeder (1:34.49).

Conrad also won the 25 breaststroke (27.68), London Sandt won the 25 back (21.86) and the 25 free (20.43), and Kinsley Walbert was first in the 25 free (21.03).

Riley Tencza, Addison Sayers, Eva Christoff, and Anna Hartranft won the 100 medley relay for the 9-10 girls.

Hartranft then won the 25 breaststroke (23.53), Sayers won the 25 fly (24.19), and Zua Esteban took first in the 25 back (19.93) and the 25 free (15.77).

In the 11-12 age group, Kids’ winners were Ryan Greig, Nathan Scheirer, Henry Schoenberger, and Ameer Campbell in the 100 medley relay (1:23.83), Emma Luipersbeck and Scheirer in the 50 breaststroke (58.27 and 58.70), Scheirer in the 100 IM (1:19.71), Schoenberger in the 50 fly (40.57), Megan Layton and Joseph Kennedy in the 50 back (45.72 and 38.40), and Kennedy in the 50 free (31.34).

Ava Gower, Ava Keenan, Esteban, and Aulisio took first place in the 13 & Over 200 medley relay (2:15.42).

The Kids wrapped up the meet with two crescendo relay victories. (Not all team members’ names were available.)

“It’s a really good group of kids, and it’s been fun this summer,” Mentzell said.
