Coplay council officially approves Genovese’s resignation
At the Coplay Borough Council meeting July 12, a motion was made to officially accept the resignation of Police Chief Vincent Genovese, who is retiring, effective Sept. 2.
The motion carried and was unanimously approved.
Council approved the lease of the Coplay Parkway Aug. 22-28 for setup of Coplay Community Days and the three days of the festival.
A $500 donation to Coplay Community Days was also approved.
The Rotary Club requested to use the pavilion, with fees waived, for the 5-K Jingle Bell Run Dec. 3. This action was brought to a vote and was approved unanimously.
Reynaldo Martinez was granted approval to run the concession stand at Coplay’s Parkway Pool for the 2022 season, contingent upon all required paperwork being returned as approved. Some necessary forms are still awaiting approval at this time.
The fee to run the concession stand for 10 weeks is $750. This fee will be prorated based on how many weeks of the pool season are left when all approvals are received.
A motion was made to approve having an ice cream truck parked on Chestnut Street during events at Community Plaza. A vote was taken, and approval was granted. Parks and recreation committee Chairman Mark Molitoris noted the truck would most likely be parked on Chestnut Street and bordered by cones.
The Coplay Fire Department asked permission to use the social hall on Cherry Street for a fundraiser Nov. 12. A motion was made, a vote was taken, and approval was granted by council.
The fire department was also approved to use the Coplay pool for a water rescue training exercise July 18.
A free swim event for children ages 12 and younger is set for 6-8 p.m. on movie night in the borough - July 21 - as proposed by the parks and recreation committee. Council approved this event.
The parks and recreation committee also proposed artwork for the pool house building, which will be done by Keith Sodl. Council approved the design, and the logo will be painted on the east wall of the building.
Coplay Sports received approval to repaint the sign near the entrance to Samuel Balliet Stadium.
Borough council will hold its next workshop meeting 7 p.m. Aug. 2.
