Allen supervisors discuss Stone Ridge addition plans
The Allen Township Board of Supervisors met July 12 to discuss the Stone Ridge development sketch plan, as well as potential improvements to Howertown Park.
The Stone Ridge development is bordered by Route 329 on the north, Horwith Lane to the west and Savage Road to the east.
Currently, the development contains a number of inhabited homes along Graystone Circle. An additional 84 residential units are proposed in Allen Township, with a further four proposed in the borough of Northampton.
A convenience store, bank, fast-food restaurant, self-storage units and an office building are also proposed to be added by other developers, according to Engineer Scott Pasterski.
Board Chairman Dale Hassler said he was concerned about two new roads “dumping onto Horwith Lane.” The two roads are within 150 feet of each other, which could cause traffic problems, according to Hassler.
Another point mentioned was the safety issue of turning left onto Nor-Bath Boulevard from Savage Road, specifically customers from the proposed convenience store. Supervisor Gary Behler said he believes the setup could cause accidents, especially during rush hour.
The supervisors also discussed sidewalks in the development leading to the commercial area and potentially the park, as well as having at least two access points to the development.
No motion was made since it is a sketch plan, but the plans will be sent over to the planning commission for its comments.
In other business, the supervisors discussed ideas from the ad hoc Howertown park committee’s meeting. Committee members met July 11 to tour the park and brainstorm a list of both short-term and long-term improvements.
Among the list of improvements were fixing a tricky lock on the field house, adding dugouts for three baseball fields, addressing the flooding at one of the play gyms and exploring additional sports opportunities such as tennis, volleyball or pickleball.
The supervisors approved a motion to fix the broken lock on the field house, install a bulletin board to post park news and events and add an equipment shed near the soccer field.
For the more long-term improvements, the supervisors plan on looking into each issue closely and creating a comprehensive plan with professional input for the park.
The Allen Township Board of Supervisors will next meet 7 p.m. July 26, with a special meeting regarding the Indian Trail Road bridge 6 p.m. July 27. Both meetings will be held at Allen Township Fire Company, 3530 Howertown Road.
