WILKUM ZU DIE FESCHT Pa. German Day celebrated at Schnecksville Fire Co.

On June 29, 1976, the Pennsylvania General Assembly recognized every June 28 as “Pennsylvania German Day” to commemorate the contributions of the Pennsylvania Germans, commonly known as “Pennsylvania Dutch” to the “cultural, educational and historical growth of Pennsylvania.”

This June 28 saw a group of Pennsylvania Germans holding a celebration in the pavilion at Community Fire Co. No. 1, Schnecksville.

Musicians and speakers spoke in both English and Pennsylvania Dutch to those gathered.

Dave and Jean Adam of Orefield and Luella Sebo were on hand to discuss their Pennsylvania German classes.

The Adams teach a 15-week class twice a year at Jordan Lutheran Church, Orefield.

Sebo, an adjunct professor at Lehigh Carbon Community College, likes to consider herself the world’s first Pennsylvania Dutch teacher on Zoom.

Luella Sebo, adjunct professor at Lehigh Carbon Community College, was joined at the Pa. German Day celebration at the Community Fire Company, Schnecksville by her student, Roger Conrad of Breinigsville. Conrad said he is delighted to be her student.
Guitarist and Pennsylvania Dutch singer Glenn Gressley of Kutztown entertained visitors to the Pennsylvania German Day celebration.
Sandra Sebo was selling some of her mom's handiwork, including Hex signs at the Pennsylvania German Day celebration in Schnecksville. Ruth Kanagy traveled from Lancaster to join the celebration.
