WHS wins Freddy Award

Whitehall High School’s production of “Godspell: 2012 Revised Version” received the Air Products Education/Community Impact Award May 26. While contributing to local charity, the spring musical donated the full amount generated from concession sales to aid refugees from the war in Ukraine.

Gratefully accepting the Freddy Award on behalf of the cast, crew and Edward Hong, director, were Marquett Ferrell and Maci Pollitt. Ferrell portrayed Jesus, and Pollitt was the soloist for the “Bless the Lord” number in the production.

According to Hong, “Razom means ‘together’ in Ukrainian and serves as a constant reminder of the community that it takes to create, build and do.”

Partnering with the Children, We Will Make It project and Building Ukraine Together, Razom for Ukraine provides humanitarian war relief including medicine, hospital supplies, communication devices and evacuation assistance. The amount that went to Razom for Ukraine was $3,240.

Additionally, donations of nonperishable food were collected for Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative, which aims to alleviate hunger for Whitehall and Coplay residents.

Giovanni Failla was one of eight recipients to receive a three-week scholarship for the Pennsylvania Youth Ballet/Ballet Guild of the Lehigh Valley summer dance intensive. Failla had been nominated for the Outstanding Performance by a Featured Dancer Freddy Award for his role as dance captain.
