Gehman Street expected to remain closed until the start of the 2022-2023 school year

The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners met for their regularly scheduled meeting June 16.

One topic of discussion was the Gehman Street bridge. It is currently closed and detours are posted. The bridge should reopen at the start of the school year.

The 2022 Line Striping project was up for bid. Two bids were received with Midlantic Marking from Gaithersurg, Md. offering the low bid of $81,000. The project amount was budgeted at $75,000 but due to economic conditions the bid was accepted. There is other money within the fund to cover the difference, according to meeting discussion.

In other meeting news, Jaindl Land Development sought an extension on its Mertztown Road project.

The extension was approved.

There are several projects that have requested extensions frequently. These projects will be discussed at a future meeting.

The crossing guard issue remains unresolved. The township is awaiting word from the East Penn School District.

Resolution 2022-39, which involves an approval of agreement with Norfolk Southern for a stormwater pipe under the Sauerkraut Lane railroad crossing, was tabled.
