Cementon Pool closed for ‘mechanical, safety issues’

Whitehall Township announced last week the Cementon Pool will be closed until further notice.

The closure was posted on the township’s Facebook page July 6.

The number of operating Whitehall Township pools has now been reduced from three to just one.

Cementon Pool, located at Victor Talotta Park, 5185 Dewey St., joins Jefferson Pool in Fullerton on the closings list.

Only Parkview Pool, 3051 S. Fifth St., Hokendauqua, is available for township residents. It is open noon-7 p.m. daily.

Camp Whitehall will be held at Hokendauqua Park, 3417 Lehigh St., for the rest of the program, which is scheduled to end for the season Aug. 5.

Aqua aerobics has also been moved to Parkview Pool. The classes are scheduled to be held 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays July 21 through Aug. 16.

The Facebook post cites mechanical and safety issues as the reason for the Cementon Pool closure.

During the July 11 Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners meeting, it was reported the Cementon Pool is being assessed for a possible leak.

The pool has been topped off to determine if the leak is coming from the pool itself or from the filtration system.

A course of action will be announced after the assessment is complete.
