Falcons Connie Mack team drops three games
Last week’s Salisbury Falcons Connie Mack results showcased a lack of pitching and defense for coach Pete Spisszak’s club.
In a 20-3 setback to Palmer Township last Monday, the Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in first inning but from there things went downhill. Palmer exploded for seven runs in the third, six runs in the fourth and seven more in the fifth. The Falcons managed to counter with one run in the fourth, but the game was called after five innings of play.
While Palmer did score 20 runs, the Falcon pitching gave up only eight hits. However, the Salisbury defense was leaky, committing up six errors.
Two nights later Salisbury traveled north to Coplay and the trip wasn’t worth the gas. Coplay plated four runs in the first and followed up with another five in the second for a 9-0 lead. This game too was called early and ended with a 12-3 loss for the Falcons.
It was more of the same last Friday, as Salisbury hosted South Parkland. Caleb Gonzalez took the hill as the Falcon starter in this one, holding the Trojans scoreless in the first. In the bottom half of the frame Salisbury took advantage of a South Parkland error to score a run and later added three more for a 4-0 lead.
Gonzalez continued to kick and fire with authority, shutting the Trojans out in the top of the second. But then it fell apart for Gonzalez and Salisbury in the top of the third as the Trojans plated 13 runs. Gonzalez was pulled after 2.2 innings in which he surrendered nine runs on eight hits and struck out three as the Falcons suffered a 19-5 defeat.
Nathan Nunez had three hits while Jacob Watson and Josiah Kuhns each had two hits to power the Salisbury offensive attack.
Salisbury enters the season’s final week with a 4-8 record with four scheduled games remaining - against Pen Argyl and Northern Valley and at Bangor and Northwest Bethlehem.
