Historical society to have open house on July 23

According to information provided by Ann Wertman, the Weisenberg Lowhill Historical Society will again throw open the doors of all its buildings 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 23 at 4585 Werleys Corner Road, New Tripoli, the permanent home of the historical society. Rain date is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 24.

This open house will be free of COVID-19 restrictions.

More than 20 local market growers and artisans are scheduled to attend.

This Christmas in July surprise will reveal the vendors, including a bake sale, many never before displayed artifacts throughout the grounds, the quilting group actively working on the 2022 quilt, and the farm garden enhancing the property.

The Good Egg Food Truck will serve breakfast and lunch items to purchase and the society’s store will be open to explore for additional goodies.

Revealed for the first time throughout the grounds of the WLTHS during this open house will be many brightly colored distelfinks which have landed, bringing with them tulips, greenery and hearts.

The distelfinks appear on the newly hung signs identifying each building or location in both English and the Pennsylvania German/Dutch dialect translated by Society Historian Donald Breininger.

Visitors of all ages will have fun locating each one and making an attempt to pronounce the dialect version.

Something else to ponder - the distelfink symbolizes happiness and good fortune; tulips represent faith, hope and charity; leaves designate life, strength and nature; and, yes, the heart carries love, so hopefully these new signs will bring a smile and good cheer to all visitors as WLTHS continues to be a community destination and presence.
