Board OKs new chillers for Siegfried, George Wolf schools

A project for new chillers has been approved for Siegfried Elementary School and George Wolf Elementary School in Northampton Area School District.
The NASD Board of Education voted 9-0, as recommended by the administration, to approve Siegfried and George Wolf elementary schools chiller replacements by Trane Building Services for $505,520. A chiller is a machine that removes heat from a liquid coolant as part of an HVAC system.
In other business at the June 13 meeting, school directors voted 9-0 to approve:
• Bath Borough to install stormwater pollution reduction on the George Wolf property at no cost to the district. A small portion of the George Wolf property will be given to Bath to address stormwater upgrades required by the state in the borough, according to NASD Superintendent of Schools Joseph S. Kovalchik.
• Northampton Community College 2022-23 budget of $67,645,750, with the district portion of $891,502
• New Story tuition agreement (extended school year 2021-22) not to exceed $10,395
• Northampton Area High School additional targeted support and improvement plan to be implemented July 1 through June 30, 2023
• NASD special education plan
• One-year agreement for trash removal/recycling services with Chrin Hauling Inc. at $6,187.50 per month from July 1 to June 30, 2023
• Alternate method of billing and payment with NCC for 2022-23 fiscal year
• Contract for Atlas Transportation Inc. on an as-needed basis to provide additional transportation for NASD students for 2022-23 school year
• Addendum updating fees Portnoff Law Associates Ltd. charges to collect NASD delinquent real estate taxes
• Amendment to retirement plan compliance administration services agreement with OMNI and TSA Consulting Group Inc.
• 2022 homestead and farmstead real estate tax reduction of $143.26 with 2022 homestead and farmstead real estate assessed value reduction of $2,572
• NASD revised health and safety plan for 2022-23 school year, required under the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund. Since the plan may be subject to further revisions, whether it be immediately or from time to time as required by changing circumstances or federal or commonwealth orders and guidance, the NASD superintendent of schools is authorized to adjust the plan based on the approved mitigation chart and input from state and local health care advisers as described in the plan. Plan changes will be placed on the NASD website and communicated to parents/guardians.
• Appointment of voting delegates, NASD school Director Dr. Michael Baird and school board President James Chuss, 9 a.m. Nov. 5 at PSBA headquarters, Mechanicsburg, or via Zoom
• Nele Fischer, full-time foreign exchange student, NAHS for 2022-23 school year
The board of education is next scheduled to meet 6:30 p.m. July 18 in the NAHS auditorium, 1619 Laubach Ave., Northampton.
