Board approves resignations, appointments, sports ticket costs
At the June 27 Whitehall-Coplay School Board meeting, a number of personnel changes were approved.
Approved resignations include Rosemarie Flores, cafeteria monitor at Zephyr Elementary School, effective June 10; and Muen Lee Edward Hong, music teacher at Whitehall High School, effective June 14.
New appointments include Stacy Hall, payroll specialist at the district office, effective June 28, with an annual salary of $47,000, replacing Kristen Riedy, who has transferred to the HR specialist position; Stephanie Steinberg, building salaried substitute at Steckel Elementary School, effective at the start of the 2022-23 school year, with an annual salary of $57,539; Andrea Edge, art teacher at Zephyr Elementary, effective at the start of the 2022-23 school year, with an annual salary of $65,397, replacing Charles Matz, who previously resigned; Michael Rile, assistant principal at WHS, effective July 1, with an annual salary of $99,000, replacing Gabriel Dillard, who is moving to principal at Zephyr; and Griffin Corteen, summer technology worker, at $14 per hour.
Tenure was granted to Christen Hudak, Kaitlyn Kanusky, Kendra Kramer, Heather Marth, Kathryn Mueller (McKarski) and Erin Schmidt at Gockley Elementary School; Claire Surovi at Steckel Elementary; Kristine George at Zephyr; and Hailey Arnold, Brittney Cinicola, Sarah Peterson and Nicole Seng at WHS.
The board approved adjustments to extracurricular assignments from the 2021-22 school year including Nicole Seng becoming the sole WHS tutoring coordinator, effective April 7; Christina Stoudt replacing Elizabeth Burnett as Class of 2022 adviser, effective Feb. 28; Mark Freeman replacing Bethany Lewis as Gaming Club adviser, effective Dec. 21, 2021; Elizabeth Burnett replacing Elizabeth Richburg as Class of 2025 adviser, effective Jan. 24; and Chad Stefanyak replacing Meredith McLaughlin as counseling department leader, effective April 7.
New coach appointments for the 2022-23 school year include Michael Cavanaugh, girls head tennis coach, at $3,223.08, and William Gruppo, head golf coach, at $3,223.08.
The board approved Whitehall athletics 2022-23 ticket prices. There will no longer be cash sales at the gate, and all tickets must be purchased online. There are no refunds for games not attended.
Children under 5 and adults over 65 are not required to buy a ticket. All reserved seats in varsity football and varsity boys basketball will need to be purchased by everyone 5 and older. Also approved was the designation of Wells Fargo, Fulton Bank, PA Local Government Investment Trust and PA School District Liquid Asset Fund as depositories for WCSD’s funds and investments for the fiscal year 2022-23.
The board approved the authorization of the business manager to designate any surplus fund balance remaining at the fiscal year ending June 30, and confirmed by the district’s independent auditors, in excess of 7.5% of 2022-23 budgeted expenditures, be committed for PSERS rate stabilization and other post-employment benefits, subsequent to formal board approval as pursuant to GASB 54 accounting guidelines.
The next school board meetings will be 7 p.m. July 25 and Aug. 22.
Committee meetings on finance/personnel, education/student activities and operations/transportation will be held 4 p.m. Aug. 8.
