SP Connie Mack starts season’s second half

The South Parkland Connie Mack Trojans finished the season’s first half with a 6-3 record, but stumbled through the second half’s first week.

After a 5-3 loss on June 10 to Northern Valley, coach Donald Friday’s club was pounded last Tuesday in a 19-6 defeat to Nazareth. South Parkland collected 10 hits, with William Dobil going 3-for-3 and Nathaniel Lopez and Julian Santiago registering two hits each.

The Trojans rebounded a 10-5 triumph last Wednesday over Palmerton. Tied at five in the top of the sixth, South Parkland took control with three runs in the frame and another two in the seventh. Seth Rohrbach was the spark plug, when he ripped a 1-1 pitch for an RBI single to give South Parkland the lead for good.

South Parkland collected nine hits in the game. Jonathan Laskoski, William Dobil and Rohrbach all managed multiple hits. Rohrbach in particular was a Palmerton menace, going 3-for-4. The Trojans tore up the basepaths also, with Nicholas Piacenti leading the way with two heists.

Muhammad Curtis earned the win with superb relief pitching. The hurler fired 3.1 innings of no-run, no-hit baseball, along the way whiffing eight batters.

“The week was a mixed bag,” Friday said. “We came out very flat against Nazareth and let that one get away from us quickly. I was pleased with the guys for going to Palmerton and taking control of the game in the later innings. It was good to get the Nazareth game behind us.”

Heading into last Friday night’s home game Lehigh Bethlehem, the Trojans were 7-4.
