The Catasauqua Communities That Care group met May 17 to begin discussion on the Pennsylvania Youth Survey data.
The survey is taken by select grade levels every two years to explore how different risk and protective factors affect the students in the district. This information is used to inform programming for future school years.
The survey is split into chapters, and group members will choose which chapters they would like to review. The CTC members will then bring the summaries of their sections to the next meeting and share the data with the group.
Chapter topics include alcohol, tobacco and other drugs use and access; anti-social behavior; community and school climate and safety; social and emotional health; and systemic factors.
In other business, the CTC members continued their work on the new brochure and letterhead. These brochures will be used as marketing materials to help inform the community about CTC’s efforts in the schools.
Amy Dymond-Jones, Catasauqua Middle School counselor and CTC organizer, reported Rita Millhouse noted she cannot participate in the committee at this time.
According to Dymond-Jones, Millhouse was an original member of the Catasauqua Community Cares Program. She previously served as the representative of the Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua and was able to get the C3P 500 cinch bags to start the food bag program.
“We will miss her,” Dymond-Jones said.
The CTC members discussed being part of Catasauqua’s National Night Out event Aug. 2. This led to further discussion about what other events the group will either have their banner at or have a table set up. The banner was set up at the recent North Catasauqua carnival and will be displayed at Catasauqua’s Friday night concert series. There will be a CTC table at North Catasauqua’s safety day July 23 and the North Catasauqua Autumnfest event.
