Borough Elementary assistant principal named

There will be a new assistant principal for the 2022-23 school year at the Borough Elementary Schools in Northampton Area School District.
On the recommendation of the NASD administration, the board of education voted 9-0 at the June 13 meeting to approve Kaitlynn McNally as Borough Elementary Schools assistant principal, effective July 1, at $84,000 annually with benefits.
After the meeting, McNally said she’s glad to be working for the district.
McNally, a Northampton Area High School Class of 2010 graduate, received a Bachelor of Science degree in children’s education from Temple University and a master’s in educational leadership from Lehigh University. She did graduate work in integrative STEM education at Virginia Tech.
McNally has taught elementary education for seven years, including two years in Virginia and four years in the Allentown School District.
“My goal has been to get back to the Northampton school district community,” McNally said.
McNally was one of several teacher and staff appointments and resignations as the NASD administration gets ready for the 2022-23 school year.
At the June 13 meeting, school directors voted 9-0 to approve the revised list of teachers and instructional assistants to provide extended school year and Chapter 15-Section 504 services for summer 2022, as well as the revised list of NASD Summer Bridge lead teachers, guidance counselors, teachers and nurses and their reimbursements, effective June 13-Aug. 4, with salaries paid through ESSER III grants.
The revised list of professional and support staff transfers, effective with the 2022-23 school year, was also approved.
Board members approved a number of appointments, including Matthew Scholl, head boys basketball coach, effective for the 2022-23 school year, at $12,353; Jason Williamson, NASD assistant business administrator, as school board treasurer, July 1-June 30, 2023, at no additional compensation; Morgan Bear, mathematics teacher, Northampton Area Middle School, effective Aug. 22, at $58,566 with benefits; Melissa Laudenslager, library science teacher, NAHS, effective Aug. 22, at $85,731 with benefits; Charles Hutterer, long-term substitute social studies teacher, NAMS, effective first semester, 2022-23 school year, at $57,155 prorated; Alex Heckman, long-term substitute fourth-grade teacher, Lehigh Elementary School, effective Aug. 22-Feb. 27, 2023, at $57,155 prorated; the voluntary transfer of Trisha Meleski as reading specialist, Lehigh Elementary School, to English teacher, NAMS, effective Aug. 22; Trisha Nagle, long-term substitute fifth-grade teacher, Lehigh Elementary, effective 2022-23 school year, at $57,155 prorated; Nicole Verret, head secretary, NAMS, effective July 25, at $22.02 per hour with benefits; Megan Repsher, 12-month secretary, NAHS, effective July 11, at $20.65 per hour with benefits; and Ian Luberti, hall monitor, NAHS, effective Aug. 29, at $14.10 per hour.
Nine resignations were approved, including Fanny Paola Mosquera, Spanish teacher, effective June 3; Megan Reed, English teacher, effective June 3; Genevieve Terpstra, family consumer science teacher, effective June 3, with a waiver for obligation to return to service upon conclusion of educational sabbatical leave; Julie Hoffman, 12-month secretary, effective June 6; Elizabeth Frankenfield, hall monitor, effective May 13; and Lauren Mortimer, science teacher, effective Aug. 12.
Retirements include Eileen Butler, head secretary, NAMS, effective Aug. 5; Debra Klepeiss, health room assistant, effective June 2; and Lee Strohl, maintenance, effective Aug. 1.
Board members voted to approve substitute rates for the 2022-23 school year, effective July 1. Rates include instructors, $125 per day; short-term substitute teachers, $140 per day (46-75 days) and $165 per day (76-89 days); substitute nurse, $145 per day; secretaries, $12.15 per hour; instructional assistants, $10.53 per hour; lunchroom and hall monitors, $11.46 per hour; substitute custodians, $14 per hour; security guards, $13.55 per hour, $16.94 per hour for 46-90 days in a continuous assignment and $19.19 per hour for 90-180 days in a continuous assignment; and security guard and hall monitors employees, NAHS and NAMS during summer 2022, allowing other guards to substitute, at their regular hourly rate of pay and if necessary, substitutes, at the approved substitute rate of pay.
The 2022-23 fall season head coaches and assistant coaches were approved with their designated payments, effective July 1-June 30, 2023.
Board members also approved Luke Shafnisky to attend the Pennsylvania Educational Leadership Summit, Aug. 7-9 at the Lancaster County Convention Center, at a cost of $1,020.67, which is included in the 2022-23 curriculum budget.
The NASD board is next scheduled to meet 6:30 p.m. July 18 in the NAHS auditorium, 1619 Laubach Ave., Northampton.
