EHS names student of the week Emma Miller
Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?
A. I just graduated from Emmaus High School.
Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.
A. My parents are Amy and Stephen Miller. I have five siblings: Tyler Miller, Kaileigh Miller, Jade Miller, Emily Miller and Madelyn Miller.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject was anatomy and physiology, which I took at Lehigh Carbon Community College as a dual enrollment class as part of the Emerging Health Program. I find it so fascinating how interconnected the body is and how every part has a function. It was also an essential class for me to take since I want to go into the medical field.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. This year I achieved principal’s honor roll each marking period and I ended my senior year as an honors graduate. I have also won the “most improved” award during my cross-country season this year. Last year I also won the Achievement in German Award.
Q. Were you involved in any extracurricular activities? How did COVID-19 impact these activities?
A. I was involved in cross-country, track and field, winter track club, National Honor Society, German Honor Society, Earth Watch Club and I was a tutor matchmaker for the peer tutor program. I am also a volunteer at St. Luke’s and Macungie Memorial Park and I participate in shadowing for the medical field at Lehigh Valley Health Network. I also have a part-time job at Weis Markets as a monitor and at the service desk.
COVID-19 definitely made it hard to keep being involved in my school, but it helped me appreciate all of these things and the ability to be involved.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. My biggest challenge was the college decision process. I really wanted to go to a big university for college, but I decided to go to community college to save money for medical school. I applied to the LCCC honors program and got in with a full scholarship, which I will be doing for two years and then going to Penn State.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. My next goal after high school is to go to LCCC for two years and then get my bachelor’s degree from Penn State for premedicine. Afterward, I plan on going to medical school.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. I admire my older sister who is in college for her nursing degree. We are very close and she has shown me that through hard work you can achieve your goals.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered as someone with a high work ethic and as someone who is kind and caring.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. My biggest advice for my peers is to make sure you make the most out of every moment in your life. If you’re still in high school, make sure you get involved and make friends because you won’t regret it and don’t be afraid to try something new or talk to a stranger.
