No. Parkland wins three of first five in LVL
The North Parkland Lehigh Valley Legion baseball team won three of its first five league games to start the 2022 season.
The Buffaloes suffered their second loss of the season Monday evening in a 16-6 setback to the Carbon Monarchs. Cole Skrapits, Joseph Algard and Jake Barto all had two hits each in the loss.
North Parkland edged Allentown 7-6 last Friday. Tyler McNicholas went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for the Buffaloes.
The Buffaloes beat Northern Valley 15-4 in five innings last Thursday, June 9. A five-run first inning and eight runs in the fifth sealed the win over the Chargers (4-2).
Logan Sicher, Algard, Wyatt Landis and Aaron Atiyeh all had two hits each in the win. Atiyeh scored three times against Northern Valley, while Landis and Chase Whittaker crossed the plate twice each. Allan Burgos, Algard and Sean Rivera each knocked in two runs for the Buffaloes.
David Sepko (3 innings, 2 hits, 3 earned runs) and Trevor Brunner (2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER) combined to limit the Chargers to three hits.
North Parkland beat Emmaus 13-1 last Wednesday, June 8.
Sicher was 3-for-4 with four runs scored against Emmaus. Burgos, Algard and Barto had two hits each in the win. Algard and Barto each had two runs scored and three RBIs.
Rivera pitched all six innings against Emmaus, allowing just two hits and no earned runs while striking out 15 batters and walking four.
The Buffaloes’ first loss of the season came in their LVL regular season opener when defending league champ Salisbury edged them 4-3 on May 31.
Algard, Whittaker, Rivera and Owen Ondrejca (2 RBIs) had one hit each against Salisbury, accounting for all four of North Parkland’s hits in the game. Whittaker pitched four innings and allowed just four hits and one earned run, but four errors hurt the Buffaloes’ cause.
Brunner pitched two innings and allowed two hits and no earned runs.
North Parkland played four nonleague games before getting into LVL play. They beat Freemansburg (19-5) and Upper Perkiomen (11-2), but lost one and tied one in two games against Boyertown by scores of 9-5 and 2-2.
The Buffaloes have six games scheduled over six days this week, beginning with Monday’s loss to Carbon County and continuing with games Tuesday (Whitehall-Coplay), Wednesday (Carbon), Thursday (Allentown), Friday (Lower Macungie) and Saturday when they take on unbeaten South Parkland in the Lehigh Valley Legion Day at Limeport.
The game will have a 9 a.m. start and kick off a slate of five games at the historic ballpark. It will be followed by Southern Lehigh-Salisbury at 11:30 a.m. Northern Valley takes on Carbon Monarchs at 2 p.m. and Whitehall faces Allentown at 4:30 p.m. Emmaus and Lower Macungie will meet in the nightcap at 7 p.m.
