The Emmaus High School Interact Club collected 300 T-shirts for pediatric cancer warriors during their Zip With Us T-shirt Drive held recently.
Zip With Us, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charity, makes and donates custom port-access ZipShirts to pediatric hospitals and cancer patients nationwide. The zipper is sewn in to allow easy access to a patient’s implanted IV port during chemotherapy.
The new, colorful T-shirts were collected in school office drop boxes throughout the East Penn School District as well as outside the administration building.
With the supervision of American Studies teacher and club adviser Amy Kaunitz and the help of English teacher Shannon Petrunak, students sorted and packed the T-shirts to be shipped to North Hills, near Pittsburgh.
Art teachers Katie Pfenninger and Alexis Soboleski created a banner to be presented to the East Penn School District elementary school collecting the most shirts. Willow Lane Elementary School was to receive the banner June 6.
Lincoln Elementary School was last year’s winner.
