Parking issues raised in Ancient Oaks West

The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners met June 2 and heard a presentation from Christopher Greb, executive director of Macungie Ambulance Corps regarding a toddler who experienced a life threatening event at his day care.

A proclamation was presented to make June 1-7 CPR and Automated External Defibrillator Awareness Week. Greb stressed the importance of knowing CPR.

An ordinance will be created to amend Chapter 1 of the Codified Ordinances for the parks and recreation advisory committee and the public safety advisory committee. This will be advertised.

A resident expressed concern over some parking issues in Ancient Oaks West. Large vehicles such as RVs and yachts among other personal business vehicles are parking on Aster Road which has no sidewalks. The large vehicles reduce visibility and make it dangerous for children as well as any pedestrians due to having to walk in the street. It was suggested to amend an already established ordinance to eliminate these vehicles on this road.

Preparation is underway to replace the Gehman Street bridge. Road closure is anticipated from June 20 through Aug. 28. Further information can be found on the Lower Macungie website at www.lowermac.com.

Resolution 2022-36 was approved for some fee adjustments. Upper Macungie Township residents are requesting a reduced rate for usage of Lower Macungie Township’s pool. The rate will be between the resident’s rate and nonresident.

A consideration for the Hunsicker tax assessment appeal was discussed. This is about property owned by Hunsicker back in 1992. He owned seven parcels and sold one to Liberty. This sale was disputed and a settlement was reached. This included a rollback of property taxes in the amount of $286,000.

The road closure behind Costco is being researched. The township owns this but includes the property owners also.

Trees along the Little Lehigh are dying from the ash borer disease. Thirty-five percent of the canopy has been destroyed. The creek needs to be cleared of this debris as this adds to flooding issues.

A resident said Aster Road had water that almost came to his front door which never happened before. Suggestions were made to possibly use some of the American Rescue Plan funds received from the government.

An 18-wheeler was observed crossing the Church Street bridge. This bridge is not to be used by trucks as it is not safe. It may have damaged some boards. The state police have been made aware of the ongoing problem.

Executive sessions were held May 23 and June 2 before the board of commissioners meeting. The sessions involved real estate land acquisition.
