During the June 6 Macungie Borough Council meeting, crosswalks were discussed again citing a substantial increase of traffic on Route 100 through Macungie. Traffic is expected to increase further as Macungie Commons becomes established as well as the neighborhood hospital. It is expected pedestrian traffic will increase as well.
There is a multimodal grant application to consider which is due by July 31. It was voted on at the last meeting but the issue of pedestrian traffic is considered very necessary. This topic will be considered again at the next meeting.
Bill Reiss, a Macungie business owner, has requested a light to illuminate a flag. He submitted his request to the zoning officer with no response received. The matter has been discussed with an electrician who suggested he might need a permit. Council suggested he complete an application for a permit.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has restricted changes in the bump outs for 10 years. Research is being completed for the bump out at Tyler Pipe/Main Street. The idea is to fill it as trucks have difficulty making turns. Another area being considered for a bump out is Lea and Race streets crossings. It was suggested additional signage be made available.
The rain garden on Cotton Street was erroneously mowed again. This is being investigated.
There are Lehigh County Housing Authority pilots being considered – 25 Cedar St. is a new property seeking approval, 22 Locust St. is another property looking for renewal of their approval and 101 W. Main St.’s update is being discussed.
Macungie Borough Manager John Brown is not able to sign checks. Council will pursue a resolution.
