‘One day is never enough’

Several hundred people attended the annual Liberty HS Memorial Day service May 27 as those who perished in their service to America were remembered and honored.

“It is an important day to remember and honor them,” said Principal Dr. Harrison Bailey III. After recruiters had raised both the American and POW flags, pipers from the Liberty Grenadier Band performed Amazing Grace and a Grenadier bugler played Taps.

Guest speaker Sgt. Maj. Stephanie Cleveland, a Liberty graduate who enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1998, reminded those in attendance of the personal and ultimate sacrifices service people make for the United States.

“One day is never enough time to remember,” said Cleveland, who is currently stationed at Fort Belvoir in Virginia.

”They gave their lives to a cause bigger than themselves,” says Sgt. Maj. Major Stephanie, Cleveland, who is also a Liberty graduate. Cleveland made special mention of several Gold Star family members who were present.
