The Jewish Day School of the Lehigh Valley, South Whitehall, dedicated a new playground, actually two new playgrounds, the afternoon of May 15.

After four decades, the school, according to Amy Golding, the head of the school, decided to add to the outdoor facilities.

An outdoor classroom under a gazebo with Wi-Fi and a place for outdoor yoga, four raised bed gardens, a location for the food which will be used in area soup kitchens and also in the Jewish Day School’s hot meal plan are now on the school property. A compost area was also dedicated.

Attending a formal ceremony and ribbon cutting was state Sen. Pat Browne, R-16th, Ellen Milhard-Kern, chief of staff for Browne, state Rep. Mike Schlossberg, D-132nd, Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk, Congresswomen Susan Wild’s Public Engagement Officer Mariska Van Aalst, and South Whitehall Commissioner Diane Kelly, president of the board.

Tables were set up for face painting, games and snacks for the children.

There was music, tours of the Jewish Day School and a PJ Library story read by Golding.
