Robert H. Youst pharmacy owner; seniors volunteer

Robert “Bob” H. Youst, 95, of Bethlehem, died May 19, 2022, in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem. Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Elmer and Nora Mae (Kimmel) Youst. He was the husband of the late Ellamae (Dowell) Youst for 65 years.

He was a 1944 graduate of Reading H.S. He earned a pharmacy degree from the University of the Sciences, Philadelphia.

He was a PFC pharmacy technician and ambulance driver in the U.S. Army.

He was a field representative for Hoffman-LaRoche in eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He and his wife founded and operated Drug Service pharmacy store and a drive-in window in Hanover Township from 1957 until they retired in 1989.

He was a charter member of the Church of the Manger UCC, Bethlehem, where he was on numerous committees.

He was a volunteer and was an AARP insurance counselor to seniors; worked in the pharmacy at St. Luke’s Hospital and Star Wellness Southside Bethlehem; was an Apprise counselor and was with to the Lehigh County Area Agency on Aging. He received a 1999 award for outstanding community involvement at Lehigh Valley Hospital’s Seniors’ Horizon Expo. He received the 2000 AARP area volunteer award for health advocacy services and an Unsung Hero award from Lehigh County. He volunteered more than 7,300 volunteer hours for St. Luke’s.

He is survived by two sons, J. Bradley and his wife Jacquelyn and Jeffrey T. and his wife Sheila, all of Bethlehem.
