Reinhard makes states in two events
The Emmaus girls track team offered several strong performances at last week’s District 11 Class 3A track and field championships held at Whitehall High School.
One strong performance undoubtedly came from distance runner Hailey Reinhard. Are there words remaining to describe this brilliant runner? Probably not, but a few facts will suffice - gold in the 3,200-meters, silver in the 1,600-meters and fifth in the 800-meters. The two top-two finished earned Reinhard a place in this weekend’s state championship meet at Shippensburg University.
Yes, Reinhard was superb, but she had company from teammates such as senior Molly Lineberger, who finished her high school career with a third-place finish in the discus and fifth-place mark in the shot put. Then there was Sheldyne Pierre, a talented junior, who earned a fourth-place finish in the high jump. The Emmaus girls relay teams performed also well. The 800-meter team earned a fifth-place rank.
Emmaus coach Kami Reinhard said earlier this year she coached all her athletes to keep one thing primary.
“I focus on what our athletes can control, and what each of them can do to be successful,” the coach said. “The effort our athletes put in directly relates to their results. I want their minds and bodies to be strong and healthy going into competition, accepting both successes and failures. I also focus on the philosophy that one path is not the best for all.’
How does the “one path is not the best for all” practically look like?
“Some of our athletes do better working on quality over quantity, and some thrive on more of a quantity type of program,” Kami Reinhard said. “I do have a gift of getting to know our athletes, and all of their names, pretty quickly, and do my best to figure out what each of his/her strengths are to help our team! It’s like a puzzle, and I love figuring it out.”
The PIAA Track and Field Championships are scheduled for May 27.
