Bullock hits mark to reach state meet

The Parkland boys track and field squad competed last week at the District 11 Class 3A track and field championships at Whitehall High School.

Included in the top finishers was senior Andrew Nguyen who earned bronze in the javelin throw. Then two other Trojans - Tyler Hoysan and Andrew Beers - each sprinted and jumped to fourth place in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Another Parkland runner, Brady Hoffman, took fifth in the 800-meter run and Ethan Willard claimed the same finish in the 3,200-meters.

The Parkland relay teams finished in the top quarter of all schools, finishing fourth in the 100- and 800-meters and third in the 400-meters.

There were fielders who achieved success during the two-day tournament. High jumper Connor Johns showcased his skills with a fifth-place finish, while triple jumper Jack Harrison finished with that same outcome and David Sepko, a junior, took fifth in the javelin.

The Trojans will have one boys athlete competing in this week’s state championship meet at Shippensburg University. Nakhi Bullock finished in sixth place in the 100-meter dash, but his time of 11.10 was right on the state-meet qualifying standard. Teammate Trey Tremba was seventh in the event at 11.14, four-hundredths of a second away from earning the trip to Ship.

Parkland coach Stephen Ott said the ‘22 campaign proved a successful one for the program. Part of the reason why is because of the competitive juices.

“The student-athletes on both of our teams push each other,” Ott said. “The competition between our athletes during practices and training sessions have helped lead to our success in the meets. Not only do they compete with each other, but they also support and encourage one another. We are a family. The combination of these two elements is very important to our team success.”

The PIAA Track and Field Championships are scheduled for May 27-28.
