The Lehigh Valley Press Focus section is discontinuing “The Family Project” column.

“The Family Project” parenting advice column started as a collaboration with Project Child, the Child Abuse Prevention Agency of the Lehigh Valley.

For 20 years, “The Family Project” answered readers’ questions about parenting topics, ranging from potty-training to defiant teens.

Project Child existed under the umbrella of Valley Youth House Committee for more than two decades. Fewer grants and other funding for Project Child changed the focus of Valley Youth House to other programs.

Without the support of Project Child, “The Family Project” column concluded with the publication of the May 4, 2022, column in the Lehigh Valley Press Focus newspaper section and on the website.

The column received the Michael A. O’Pake Memorial Award for media public service from the Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance in 2013.

The Lehigh Valley Press thanks “The Family Project” panelists for their contributions to the column and Kathy Lauer-Williams and the late Carole Gorney for compiling the column.
