Emmaus Flag Day program set for June 14

The Emmaus Flag Day program facilitated by the Emmaus Rotary Club will be held 6 p.m. June 14 in the Arts Pavilion at Emmaus Community Park.

The Flag Day program has a long history with the borough of Emmaus. A group of Emmaus citizens founded the program in 1959 to promote the observance of Flag Day and Flag Week.

Fifth grade students were invited to write poems and eighth grade students to write essays on “What the American Flag means to me.” The students will present their winning poems and essays at the June 14 program. The program includes Emmaus veterans, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and musical presentations. Refreshments will be served courtesy of Vienna Lodge 847 International Order of Odd Fellow and Ai Orthodontics.

Lt. J.D. Collier, U.S. Naval Academy graduate, will speak about “America’s Journey from Adversity to Success,” including stories about his service career. The Rev. Ryan K. Schnake, associate pastor of Concordia Lutheran Church and chaplain, U.S. Army Reserves, will offer the invocation and benediction. Nathan Brown will preside and Emmaus Mayor Lee Ann Gilbert will present proclamations to the winning students.

In keeping with a way to honor our flag, the Emmaus Rotary Club offers a holiday flag program. For a reasonable price, the club’s members will place a flag at your site six times a year: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Patriot’s Day and Veterans Day. The profits benefit local Rotary Club projects. For information, visit http://Flags.EmmausRotary.org.
