A preliminary hearing for Gerald Robert Bretzik is scheduled for 11 a.m. May 31 before Magisterial District Judge Robert A. Hawke.
Bretzik, 53, of Moore Township, faces two misdemeanor charges stemming from an alleged incident at an April 11 Northampton Area School District Board of Education meeting.
The first charge is “Harassment - Comm. Lewd, Threatening, Etc. Language.”
The second charge is “Disorderly Conduct Obscene Lang/Gest.”
During the April 11 NASD monthly school board meeting in the Northampton Area High School auditorium, Bretzik allegedly shouted an expletive at school board President James Chuss. Bretzik also allegedly said he would confront Chuss in public.
Chuss allegedly told Bretzik to leave the meeting. When Bretzik was escorted from the auditorium, he allegedly made an obscene gesture.
The arresting officer was Wilfred Williams, NASD chief of police.
NASD school directors voted 7-1 with one abstention at the May 9 board meeting to send a letter to Bretzik, informing him he is banned from school board meetings through 2022.
“The exclusion from board meetings has become necessary due to a pattern of behavior that has grown progressively disruptive, culminating in a direct threat to at least one board member at the meeting of April 11, 2022,” stated the May 9 agenda item regarding Bretzik.
Bretzik was reportedly asked to leave at least one earlier school board meeting.
Bretzik is the husband of NASD school board Director Kim Bretzik, who abstained from the May 9 vote.
