It was a wrap for the Liberty Hurricanes who ended their season on Monday with a 7-5 loss to Easton at Liberty.
“We should have won this game, but they kind of relaxed and took their foot off the gas,” said Liberty coach Sam Carrodo.
The Hurricanes had a 5-1 lead after two innings, but the Red Rovers made it 5-3, heading into the top of the sixth inning.
That’s when Liberty errors loaded the bases for Easton, and a walk and hit-by-pitch tied the game 5-5.
In the top of the seventh, a base hit and two walks loaded the Easton bases again, and a sacrifice fly and a line drive to left field put the Red Rovers ahead for good.
“I know (pitcher) Miya (Williams) has to be tired, and I understand that. She threw all year, but for next year, we have to be better hitters, we have to get stronger, and we have to cut down on our walks. If we can do that, we’ll be a lot more successful,” Carrodo said.
Liberty’s Molly Devers had a single, and Arianna Castillo doubled in the first inning. Two walks and a base hit by Williams scored a run for the Hurricanes, and two more runs scored on bases-loaded walks in the second inning.
The Hurricanes ended their season with a record of 7-13.
“I betcha of those 13 losses, we should’ve won five more because we were in the game and just gave it away on crazy plays. Just crazy plays and not hustling,” said Carrodo. “We were only out of one game, and that was the Beca game (12-2).”
