Fountain Hill Pantry Project advances
The Fountain Hill Pantry Project will have a temporary home at the Fountain Hill ES. Superintendent Dr. Joseph Roy said, “That space under the elementary classrooms will be converted into a temporary home for the food pantry until they can establish their own independent space – and this will be at no cost to the district.” Construction will begin once school is out for the summer.
Facilities Director Mark Stein gave a thorough update on the summer renovations planned for Calypso, Freemansburg, and Governor Wolf elementary schools. In the interest of completing the projects before school resumes in the fall relocation of classroom contents and transitioning to virtual learning have begun. Contents of classrooms have been moved off site to help expedite the process.
These schools will receive HVAC renovations that will include old unit ventilators removed, new overhead air handlers, new central chiller plant, new ability to dehumidify, new ceilings and LED lights, painting and new carpeting. Beginning in May, construction will begin after school hours and the last student in person day at these sites will be May 25. Moving crews will arrive May 26. Plans are to complete projects by Aug. 20 and return contents of classrooms at that time in preparation for first day of school, Aug. 29.

Director Dr. Benita Draper and supervisor Eric Fontanez outlined goals and objectives as well as how they plan to evaluate their work as the department develops. Roy said, “The Equity office touches every aspect within the school system.” Draper and Fontanez will provide regular updates to the board.
