You know summer is approaching when Carpenter Cup tryouts are on tap.
That’s the case this weekend as the first round of tryouts for the prestigious baseball tournament gets underway May 15 at 8:15 a.m. at Limeport Stadium.
The Carpenter Cup is one of the best high school tournaments in the region with the first game taking place June 14 against Burlington County at FDR Park in Philadelphia. The ultimate goal is reaching the semifinals of the eight team tournament to play at Citizens Bank Park.
The Lehigh Valley squad has won the tournament three times (1998, 2001, 2011) and reached the semifinals five times, including last year’s 6-5 loss to Mercer County.
The roster will consist of 25 players, with an allowance of 15 seniors to be on the team.
Sunday’s round one of the tryouts is an important step in the process with other tryouts at Limeport set for May 22 and May 29, both at 8:30 a.m. with the final roster set to be released June 7.
A final team practice is scheduled for June 12 at 8:30 a.m. before the team heads to their opener in Philadelphia. A skills day with invited players only will take place on June 13.
The quarterfinals are slated for June 17 at 12:30 p.m., with the semifinals on June 19, and the championship game on June 20.
