EHS girls T&F ready for memorable postseason
May is the month when the best athletes in high school track and field rise to the top.
The Emmaus girls track and field program had a fine regular season and is looking forward to the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and District 11 Class 3A championships, which are slated for this week and next week, respectively.
“They are all super excited and ready to focus more on individual events and where each can most improve in the postseason,” Emmaus head coach Kami Reinhard said of her teams. “We have a solid representation of EPC league qualifiers among all event groups, which is a goal I had when I took on the head coach position five years ago.”
Last Tuesday the girls ended their regular season with a 51-99 loss to Parkland. Hornet winners included Hailey Reinhard, who won easily the 3,200-meter run. On the field side, Summer Lorincz won the long jump, while Molly Lineberger won the shot put and discus throw. The Emmaus girls won also the 3,200 relay.
While the loss was disappointing, it does not diminish a superb regular season and personal growth for each young lady.
“The beauty of track and field is that this sport brings so many student-athletes together from many different walks of life,” the coach said. “The magic is bringing them all together working as one in a totally different environment, with so many different people, in a sport that doesn’t have much exposure before high school.”
Reinhard told the team to look forward.
“I’ve told our teams many times, despite having a loss, we have very strong teams,” Reinhard said. “Other teams are strong too, and that’s what we want, because it raises the bar for all of our teams in the league and district to compete at a higher level at the PIAA state meet.”
The EPC championship is scheduled for May 10 and 11 at Whitehall’s Zephyr Sports Complex.
