The Emmaus boys tennis program continues to show season-to-season improvement, but the District 11 Class 3A team tournament showed work remains.
The Hornets, the number five seed, were dismissed last Monday in the quarterfinal round by fourth-seed Freedom, 4-1.
Only No. 2 doubles Rohan Desai and Ayden Kegley were able to serve and volley for an Emmaus victory, as they defeated Noah Bautista and Rohit Chinnawar in an entertaining match, 4-6, 6-0, 10-5.
The Hornets’ No. 1 singles player Eddy Chow, who has impressed Emmaus coach Fred Saab all season with his spirited play, couldn’t handle the Pats’ Noah Potts, losing 6-2, 6-1 to the recently-crowned district singles champ. At No. 2 singles, Nick Stone lost his match by default, while No. 3 Nic Gilboy fell to Freedom’s Gavin Labaddia, 6-1, 6-0.
The fourth loss came at No. 1 doubles Gabe Huff and Ryan Baig’s expense, as the duo lost to Noah Rodburg and Dylan Sarkozy, 6-4, 6-3.
The tournament defeat does not diminish the Hornets’ 2022 accomplishments.
“I am proud of the boys for a successful, hard-fought season,” Saab said.
Two Emmaus doubles teams were scheduled to compete in the District 11 Class 3A doubles championships this week.
“Doubles districts should be another great tournament,” Saab said. “Eddy Chow and Nick Stone have played in a couple of matches together this season, which should give them some cohesiveness in the tournament.”
