The athletes of UMYA FORCE 16U softball team decided to take a different path toward fundraising.
The team reached out to family and friends and asked for monetary donations.
Keeping a small percentage of the donations for the team to be used toward tournaments, entry fees and the like they wanted to take the remaining donations and give back to the community.
The team presented a check for $1,131.75 to the Grace Food Cupboard at Grace Lutheran Church in Macungie. The program is funded solely by donations.
Grace Food Cupboard is open Wednesdays and Sundays immediately after worship, according to the church website, which also gives details on the types of items available. The program is community outreach offered by the church.
Donations of nonperishable foods also are accepted.
