The Young Playwrights’ Festival of Touchstone Theatre will be held at 7 p.m. on May 21 in Baker Hall at Zoellner Arts Center. It is the 17th year of production of original one-act plays written by local elementary and middle school students of the Young Playwrights’ Lab. The lab is an eight-week arts and literacy residency developed by Touchstone and the Bethlehem Area School District.
Five of the 125 plays submitted from this year’s lab were chosen for full production. The authors and they works are The Perfectly Perfect Not So Perfect Paisley by Anna Zsilavecz of Spring Garden Elementary; The Young Playwrights! by Sophia Emarie Colon of Marvine Elementary; Starr is Who You Are by Emmy Dandridge of Governor Wolf Elementary; The Bad Bully by Jordan Colon of Fountain Hill Elementary; and Cloud’s Secrets by Juliet Broskey of Buchanan Elementary. Directed by Touchstone’s ensemble of artists and guest directors, the plays are performed by Touchstone actors, community performers, and students from area schools.
Preshow festivities at 7 p.m. include music by Dave Fry and “red carpet” photo ops. The Festival performance is from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in Baker Hall. For advance tickets, call 610-867-1689 or visit www.touchstone.org.
