SHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am in 12th grade at Salisbury High School.

Q. Who is in your family? Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My mom Barbara, my father Joel and my brother Eric.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is social studies because I love learning about the past because there are so many interesting and crazy facts. I also believe we all can learn from our mistakes that humanity has made in the past so we do not repeat them in today’s world. I also enjoy learning about government and other cultures in the modern day.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. Perfect attendance and 2022 varsity baseball captain.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?

A. I play on the varsity baseball team. COVID-19 really impacted the team my sophomore year in the form of our whole season being canceled. Last year we had to wear masks in the dugout and in training sessions indoors. This year though all of these restrictions have been lifted, so it’s back to normal and it’s definitely a lot more fun because you can focus completely on the game and don’t have to worry about putting a mask on after every inning. Outside of baseball I am also the senior class secretary, where I plan events like prom, homecoming and the senior trip with my other advisory members.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. I plan on going to Averett University in Danville, Va. to study flight operations. With my degree it will enable me to hopefully get a job as a pilot at a major U.S. airline right out of college.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge is probably losing both my grandmothers on my mom’s and dad’s side of my family just in the last few years. But I also feel like this motivates me to achieve my goals that they always supported me on before their passing.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered as a person who was always there for anyone, maybe we are not best friends, but I was able to help anyone in need of it, from small to big things.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire Dwayne Johnson because of his work ethic and determination that nobody will work harder than him.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. I advise my peers to always be nice to each other and look out for each other. It does not take much effort to help others even in small ways. Keep working to do good in school, and have fun. One day you’ll look back at high school and miss it.
