Macungie Ambulance provides annual report

Macungie Ambulance Operations Manager Christopher Greb gave an annual report during the April 21 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting. Greb told commissioners the total number of calls for the ambulance corps was 4,456 with 74 percent or 3,303 calls for Lower Macungie Township.

Despite the limitations of the pandemic, 19 community first aid and/or CPR classes were held with 70 individuals being certified. Community Outreach and Education (CORE) was active; actions of bystanders and first responders can make huge difference.

An example of this occurred when two bystanders cared for two victims of cardiac arrest. Their lives were saved by these bystanders.

In 2021, Greb said there were 71 emergency responders trained and certified in CPR and automated external defibrillator use. Thirteen additional individuals were trained in first aid.

A regional mass casualty incident was also created to design and implement training procedures.

The Merissa L. Frye Small Cell Cervical Cancer Memorial Foundation was created to aid in the purchase of life saving equipment for fire and police departments. The fund was created in memory of Merissa who had small cell cervical cancer.

The commissioners expressed their gratitude to the corps.

Erica Wade Elcock sent a letter of resignation from the library board. Nancy Latanision was appointed to the library board with a term to expire Jan. 31, 2025.

Bids were received for the sanitary lateral relining. The lowest bid was from Upstate Trenchless of Queensbury, N.Y., in the amount of $147,150.

The grass cutting project bid was awarded to Estate Management of Macungie for $102,438 for the first year with four automatic renewals if prices hold.

Lower Macungie’s Community Day was planned for May 3.
